WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Crews are beginning to work on improving an intersection in Wilmington.
Work is set to begin at the intersection of Racine Drive and New Centre Drive to create a new turn lane.
This is a transportation bond project aiming to help reduce traffic congestion and increase pedestrian safety.
Traffic patterns will vary as the work goes on for around five months.
“It is, –I think often times, used as an alternative to College Road. In addition to a way to access the businesses and of course many apartment complexes and things that are on Racine Drive. So, for a lot of people they’ll use Racine as they come from Eastwood, back towards campus, and it’s a needed improvement in a very busy section of town,” said Dylan Lee, City of Wilmington spokesperson.
Traffic will be permitted to drive through the project, but the city asks drivers to avoid the intersection if possible.
